My name is Bryan White and I run EweDrive Instructor Training.

The benefits of training with us are:

• All your training is one-to-one and carried out on-the-road in our vehicle – the only place to learn the skills of a driving instructor.

• We take you from fledgling instructor to working confidently, efficiently, and profitable as a qualified professional ADI.

• We can arrange staged payments to spread the cost of your training.

• We include our own teaching resources with individual advice and reports on your progress.

• You have the safe knowledge that your course fees are spent on your training and not on expensive offices or advertising.

• If you choose not to work with EweDrive after training, we can help you obtain a placement with a local or national school, or with setting up your own business.

• Continuous Professional Development is available once you have qualified, guiding you through the early part of your new career.

Training as a fully qualified driving instructor isn’t an easy process. However, if you’re prepared to work, you have a great chance of passing.

There are 3 exams you need to take and pass each one within 3 attempts. You also have 2 years to complete all 3 exams from the date you pass the first exam – ADI Part 1.

What are the 3 tests to become an ADI?

Part 1 - Theory and Hazard Perception

The ADI Part 1 is similar to the learner driver theory test. However, as a more experienced driver you will be tested with more questions and the required pass mark will be higher.

The learner’s theory test is 50 questions with a pass mark of 43, whereas the ADI theory test is 100 questions with a pass mark of 85.

EweDrive provide all your required learning equipment, such as complementary online training resources and study materials. All you need to successfully pass this part of becoming an ADI.

Part 2 - Test of Driving Ability

The ADI Part 2 is again similar to the practical driving test for learner drivers, though, as an experienced driver, you will be expected to have a greater knowledge and understanding.

On a learner’s driving test, the candidate can make up to 15 driver faults (previously known as minor faults) compared to the ADI Part 2 test where you can only make 6 driving faults over the course of 1 hour.

EweDrive offer expert training focused on improving your driving ability and honing your skills and technique. We conduct this alongside your Part 3 training, as they will compliment each other.

Part 3 - Test of Instructional Ability

The ADI Part 3 will test your instructional ability and teaching skills. For this part of the test, you will be observed by an examiner as you train a pupil.

At EweDrive, you will receive 40 hours of training, as required by DVSA, where we will develop your instructional ability and coach you on how to teach pupils to drive safely through in-car training. This element contains:

• Core competencies

• Lesson planning

• Risk management

• Teaching and Learning strategies

Once you have completed the required 40 hours, you have the option to work for EweDrive on a temporary trainee licence (for up to 6 months) to gain real life experience with pupils. This means that you can start providing lessons and earning money, all getting ready for your Part 3 Exam. On what is called your ‘Pink Licence’ you are required by the DVSA to receive an additional 20 hours of observation and feedback of your teaching. After a successful Part 3 exam, you will be added to the DVSA’s register as an approved driving instructor (ADI).

EweDrive offers the complete package that covers all 3 parts for the qualifying tests in one. However, if you have already been successful in Part 1 or Part 2, we have a dedicated Part 3 training programme just for you.

Costs

£200 - All course materials

£1600 – 40 hours of in-car instructor training (10 x 4hr sessions)

£800 – 20 hours of observation and feedback ready for Part 3 Exam (if going down the 'Pink Badge' route).

This is 60 hours of in-car, one-to-one training, a lot more than most other companies, giving you the best chance of success.

Total: £2600

This can be paid over a number of months if required.

We have many trainees coming to EweDrive needing a second opinion, some needing help on their last attempt at the Part 3 and others who want to join our driving instructor franchise and finish their training with us too.

If you are coming to us after completing your initial 40 hours training then we can still help you and these will be your training rates.
